Fast, Reliable PDF Translation for Professionals Using XLIFF

TransPDF ends the frustration of translating PDFs by converting them to good quality XLIFF for use with your own translation tools.

Simply upload your PDF to TransPDF and translate the XLIFF you get back using your own tools; the system supports a wide range including memoQ, Memsource and DejaVu. Upload your translated XLIFF and you will get a fully-formatted, translated PDF. Any post-editing can be done for FREE using Infix 7.

In the past, translating PDF documents has been a time-consuming process with translators forced to work with tools that don’t retain formatting, colours or fonts. In short, tools that don't understand PDF. With TransPDF, this is no longer a problem!

This is an amazing technology!!

With a dedicated server you have all it's resources to yourself - especially important when using our free API for automated processing. You'll also be able to offer security guarantees to your clients over and above those of the public TransPDF server.

We have two server configurations, one that runs in-house and a cloud-based setup for the highest-volume requirements.

The XLIFF parts however are all done in the cloud using their TransPDF website.  This is quite impressive and you can use this without the InFix PDF Editor at all.

Unlock The Potential Of PDF

Don't get bogged-down with layout, tags and code; concentrate on the words instead.
TransPDF handles the difficulties of the PDF format, leaving you to get on with the translation.

The end of tags

TransPDF generates XLIFF with very few in-line tags. All of the styling and font information is tracked and preserved, it's just kept out of your way to make translation easier.

PDF Previews

Side-by-side previews let you compare each newly translated PDF with the original, while watermarks enable you share previews with clients, safe in the knowledge they cannot be used commercially.

Public API

Developers are using the free public API to integrate Trans PDF into their tools and give their customers seamless access to PDF translation without having to leave their apps.

What Does It Cost?

Got an Infix License?

If you have a valid Infix license, TransPDF is free of charge. There is still a charge of 1-credit per-page if you use the world-class OCR facility. Infix licenses start at just $9.99 +VAT for a monthly subscription.

Not an Infix user?

If you don't have a valid Infix license, the cost is just 1-credit per page. With credits costing as little as 15¢, a typical PDF page of 350 words would cost just ¢0.0004 per word!

For example, a 50-page PDF of around 15,000 words could add around €8 to the cost of your project. But how many hours of work would you save? Anyone who has tried editing a PDF will know that putting a translation back into a 50-page PDF would take hours without TransPDF. Isn't your time worth more than that?

Per-page cost

With a valid Infix license Without a valid Infix license
PDF to XLIFF FREE FREE
PDF Previews FREE FREE
OCR 1 credit 1 credit
Final PDF FREE 1 credit

You never pay more than 1-credit per page. Even if you have to OCR a page then translate it, that's still just 1-credit in total.

To get you started, you get 25 free credits when you sign-up.

Need to Know More?

If you don’t see what you’re looking for, check our FAQ.

Can it handle scanned PDFs ?

Yes! Upload a scanned or 'dead' PDF and TransPDF will convert it to a real PDF with editable text. It then gets converted to XLIFF ready for translation as normal.

The facility is also available via the Memsource integration though not yet with the plug-in for SDL Trados Studio.

Is there a public API available?

Yes. There is a fully documented API you can use to integrate smart PDF translation into your own applications for free.

The API package consists of a Python demo showing how to access all of the features such as uploading PDFs and exporting XLIFF. The underlying technology is HTTP-based so you don't need to use Python if you don't wan to.

Are my PDFs secure ?

When you upload a PDF it is visible to you and only those whom you choose to share it with. Access to TransPDF.com is all done via https (secure web access) which means your passwords and data are encrypted during transit.

If your clients insist of total security, we offer the TransPDF Appliance.

What is XLIFF ?

XLIFF is an industry standard XML-based format for translating all kinds of documents and is supported natively by leading tools such as SDL Trados Studio, memoQ, Memsource, Fluency, TransitNXT and others.

Can it handle right-to-left text such as Arabic?

Not yet, unfortunately. TransPDF can only handle languages written left-to-right. Some vertical text is also supported. This means the system is currently not suitable for Arabic, Hebrew etc.
